5 Journal Prompts That Will Help YOU Reach Your Goals

Written By: Carly Burr

Do you ever feel like your head is going to explode from the countless thoughts you have? Have you ever felt overwhelmed because you couldn’t organize those thoughts?

Well, I have the perfect solution for you. All you need is a pen and a journal. And no, it's not a “diary”(unless you want to call it that). Writing down your feelings and journaling is much bigger than when you were 10 years old writing about your middle school crush. Keeping a journal can help you manage your time, feel less overwhelmed, and even reduce stress and anxiety. According to Verywellmind.com, journaling is a “highly effective tool for stress relief” and is scientifically proven to decrease symptoms of asthma, arthritis, and other health conditions. It has also shown to increase cognitive functions and strengthen the immune system. So, grab a pen and a notebook, and try out these 5 journal prompts below.

1. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, how satisfied are you with your life?

This question may seem intimidating at first, but that's probably because most people don’t want to face any of their problems. Think about the different areas within your life and whether or not you’re satisfied with them. Maybe you’re killing it at work, but struggling with your relationships. Identify where you're strong and the ones that you can work on. This will help you recognize the areas you should focus on improving so that you are allocating your resources properly.

2. Identify the areas where you are talking to yourself negatively. How can you flip those thoughts to make them positive?

The subconscious mind controls 95% of your life, and 90% of the thoughts we are tell ourselves are negative. Therefore, you need to identify when you are speaking to yourself poorly and flip those negative thoughts into positive ones. Here are some examples below.

Negative Thought: I hate the way I look, I need to start working out every single day.

Positive Thought: I am so grateful that my body allows me to exercise and play the sports that I love.

Negative Thought: I'm so stupid, I shouldn’t have picked that answer on the exam!

Positive Thought: Everybody makes mistakes, and I am grateful that I have such an amazing education.

Negative Thought: Why can’t I just be “popular”?

Positive Thought: I have such amazing family and friends, and I know that the people around me are loyal and will always be there for me.

You want to make sure you're planting seeds of prosperity into your subconscious mind, and filling it with positive, happy thoughts. Once you start to do this, you will see a huge difference in your life and the way you feel.

3. How can I reframe my mindset to view failure as a natural part of the learning process, and use it as an opportunity for growth?

Think about all of the failures you've encountered throughout your life so far. Now, instead of dwelling on the past and being hard on yourself about the mistakes you made, switch your mindset and think about what those failures taught you and how you grew from them. Like Michael Jordan said, “if you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it”.

4. If you had all of the confidence in the world, what would you do? Take a moment to write out the first thing that comes to mind. There is probably something you want, but self-doubt and insecurity are holding you back. Let’s change that!

This one may be difficult, but it's vital that you are able to recognize where you are lacking confidence and how that confidence is holding you back. Once you realize what is restraining you, you can use different exercises and tools to help grow and strengthen your confidence. You can find many of these in our new book CLUES. We include journal prompts, tips on meditation, the law of attraction, and many different exercises you can complete to strengthen your confidence. Once you feel more confident and break through that road-block, you will be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Just know that everyone struggles with self-confidence, and that you're not alone!

5. What would your perfect day look like? Describe every detail.

From the minute you wake up to the minute you fall asleep, describe every single detail. When would you get up? What would you eat? How would you feel? What activities would you do? Who would you spend it with? This will reveal everything that genuinely make your soul happy. Once you plan out your entire day, read it over and identify things that you can start to incorporate in your life everyday.

Now, how do you feel? You'll notice that you feel less stressed and like you have a better handle on everything going on in your life. Try and journal a few times a week and see if that helps even more. And, if you need more journal prompts check out CLUES for so many more!
