The summer is coming to an end. Beach houses are enjoying their last laughter filled days until next year. School supplies are bought in droves. There will be hard bosses or rough days in class. As autumn falls into place, we can remind ourselves to take a step back or a break.
Use your driving time as a meditative opportunity: If you have a bit of a drive home from work or school, use that time to reflect and come to terms with things that cause you stress. Let your thoughts come and remember that you can’t have sunshine without a little rain. There will always be things in life that we can’t control. The only thing we have control over is how we choose to react to it. So breathe. Relax. Rain waters plants which makes them thrive, so understand that these thoughts racing around your head can only give you an opportunity to grow.
Put your intentions out there even if no one is listening: Don’t just think your worries out. State them in a list. Then think about what you can change and accept what you can’t. Tell yourself “It might be tough now, but I'm going to be okay”. Say it out loud. Say it proud and with confidence. And as your drive comes to an end, realize that you have power over things even if you don’t have control.
Take a brain vacation: Store mental pictures of your favorite places and memories from the summer to use when you want to get away. Think about the soft sand beaches or the backyard barbeques and just live in that moment for a couple minutes. Use that to remind yourself that “hey! Things haven’t always been this way and they won’t stay either”. It’s ok to leave your head for a short while. When you return, allow yourself to feel more grounded and in charge of your reality.
